2008 Passat BlueMotion to debut at the Geneva Auto Show

Last Summer Volkswagen unveiled its BlueMotion diesel technology in Europe and in conjunction with the debut, VW has also announced that they will be presenting the same line for the Geneva Auto Show but with the addition of the Passat BlueMotion. The first ever presented BlueMotion model was the little Polo which is powered by a 79 hp, 1.4liter three cylinder turbocharged diesel with fuel economy record of 60mpg. It’s no wonder that it has become a hit overseas. The increasing demand for the Polo has prompted the tripling of its production plus Volkswagen has been flooded with suggestions asking for the importation of its Polo BlueMotion to the US. But that’s another story for another time. The Passat BlueMotion which will be presented at the Geneva Auto show will be available in sedan and wagon variant and said to consume more fuel than the Polo. honeywell thermostat t8775. But according to Volkswagen the Passat sedan consumes only 5.1 liter of diesel in 100km which works out to 46 mpg. To further illustrate the fuel-saving capacity of the Passat, Volkswagen said that a driver a travels 15,000km a year or equivalent to 9,320 miles would only have to visit the filling station for eleven times only. “No other vehicle this size consumes less fuel.” The wagon or Estate will run 45 miles per gallon of diesel and Volkswagen has also assured that its CO2 emission is also within the acceptable limit. The Passat BlueMotion in keeping with Volkswagen’s long tradition for quality vehicles will be equipped with only the best auto parts and accessories that the automaker can give like for instance its Volkswagen vent visor. The BlueMotion name according to VW comes from the carmaker’s corporate color blue, the word Motion is added to mean mobility. It can be remembered that late last year VW and Mercedes-Benz have announced a BlueTec partnership which was employed on VW’s Audi-branded Q7 3.0 diesel presented at the Detroit auto show last January. The creation of the BlueMotion marks a separation from the BlueTec project. There are also various suspicions coming out alleging that the Passat BlueMotion will use a 103-hp version of the 2.0 liter diesel engine with some adjustment which was earlier planned for the 2008 Jetta. Volkswagen has not released any statement regarding the matter but stated that it would be better to wait for the Geneva Auto wherein Passat Blue Motion will make its debut. Volkswagen also said that while Mercedes’ BlueTec diesels possessed significant updates in engine software and hardware, BlueMotion’ s remarkable achievements are brought about “through fine tuning of the engine which was already extremely efficient”. Volkswagen also added that efficiency doesn’t have to be boring, “that is an element of the BlueMotion philosophy: fuel efficiency and agility in a combination that still makes driving fun”.
